My uncle Joe was a much loved family physician in Milwaukee and was my role model but I didn't become interested in medicine until I saw the birth of our first daughter, Sheila, in 1972. The rigid practice of obstetrics at that time, as well as the quality of care we had experienced in a teaching clinic in Boston were eye openers for me and inspired me to want to provide a more humane, patient focused care. I received a National Health Corps Scholarship for medical school and came to La Familia to pay back my scholarship obligation. My family loved Santa Fe and La Familia so we stayed past my 4 year scholarship commitment and made Santa Fe our home. Our daughter, Jessica, will complete a residency in Family Medicine in 2013. She hopes to return to Santa Fe to practice.
