After getting out of the Army I struggled with a loss of community and purpose, so I started doing disaster relief work to help regain that sense of working in a team for the greater good. Through this I lucked into a scholarship for a Wilderness First Responder course and fell in love with medicine – the intellectual rigor, the hands-on skills, and most importantly, the ability to hear patient stories and work with patients to achieve mutual goals. I was drawn to Family Medicine specifically because of its continuity across ages and settings, its emphasis on preventative care, and its focus on women’s health and the joys of caring for children. Now, in my final year of residency, I’m proud to call Santa Fe and La Familia home. My care philosophy is that every person deserves a doctor who will focus on their needs, respect their wishes, and remain responsive as we work together to improve the health of our community. I particularly welcome questions because I believe you are the most important part of your care and you deserve to know everything that is going on, even when there is diagnostic uncertainty.
