Jonathan Beamer, MD

I have been interested in the brain and human behavior since I was in high school. This led to a B.A. and M.A. in psychology and a couple years teaching and counseling in a middle school. This felt like a dead end after awhile, so I spent a year exploring my options, and eventually decided my dream was to go to medical school, and after internship and 3 years as a general practitioner in the IHS, followed by a residency in psychiatry. My care philosophy is that care is mostly about the relationship, listening and trying to understand each person’s life, and not just their symptoms, and working with that person to see what they can do to change the issues that brought them in, sometimes with the help of therapy and/or medication.
