LA FAMILIA MEDICAL CENTER OFFERS FREE FLU VACCINES
La Familia Medical Center will provide free flu vaccines on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1035 Alto Street and 2145 Caja del Oro Grant Road. The vaccines will be provided to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies last. The Santa Fe Reporter will be hosting a block party in honor of the winners at the Railyard Park Farmer's Market Pavilion Friday, July 20, 5-9 PM and it is FREE to the community. Dale Jenkins, Dental Director of La Familia Medical and Dental Center, was honored and presented with Dental Provider of the Year 2016 award by the New Mexico Primary Care Association on June 23, 2016.

La Familia Medical Center Offers Smoking Cessation Classes
La Familia Medical is offering a five-week smoking cessation classes beginning Thursday, October 1, from 5-6 PM and running consecutive Thursdays through October 29. Medicap Pharmacy Closed
Dear La Familia/Medicap Patient,
Medicap Pharmacy recently informed us that they will be closing their doors as of Tuesday, June 23rd. La Familia will be moving the discount pharmacy to our Alto Street Clinic and providing this service to our patients on-site.
If you have a refill for pick up at Medicap and were not able to pick it up before Medicap closed, it will be available at La Familia after June 25th. Please call 505-982-4425 to confirm that it is ready for pick-up.

Santa Fe County Funds Early Childhood Initiatives
The Santa Fe County Community Services Department released funding in the amount of $250,000 for services to reduce the number of low birth weight babies born in Santa Fe County. Contracts were issued to two community based providers, La Familia Medical Center and Las Cumbres, to develop new and enhance existing programs. Reducing the incidence of low birth weight babies in Santa Fe County is one of the top priorities of the Santa Fe Health Policy and Planning Commission and is reflected in the Countyâs Health Action Plan. Rotary Club of Santa Fe Del Sur Donates Kids Activity Center to Southside Clinic
La Familia Medical Center would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Rotary Club of Santa Fe Del Sur and all of the generous donors for the donation of the Kid's Activity Center at our Southside Clinic Location.
The children are enjoying playing with the different toys, providing a little down time before they are seen by their doctor or while they wait for a parent.

Santa Fe Rotary Club Foundation Funds Anti-Obesity Program
We are delighted to announce that Santa Fe Rotary Club Foundation has made a grant to La Familia to support our juvenile anti-obesity program which is called CENA (Comunidad, Ejercicio, Nutricion, Accion)
The program works with entire families to examine and attempt to improve their dietary habits and fitness habits. Our Community Health Workers provide resources and encouragement to every family that expresses a desire to alter their lifestyle habits to prevent the onset of life threatening illnesses such as Type II Diabetes.

La Familia Provides Diabetes Education and Nutrition Information for OB Outreach
On November 21, Mall Walkers and others at Santa Fe Place will have access to health counseling in a variety of areas. As part of OB Outreach Month, LFMC OB staff and Registered Dietition will be available to provide guidance to pregnant women on the importance of healthy eating during pregnancy and other important topics.
A Certified Diabetes Educator will offer information on diabetes management.
Community Health Educators will discuss La Familia's anti-obesity program "CENA" with any interested parties and take Body Mass Index measurements.

Brindle Foundation Makes Multi-year Grant to LFMC
Brindle has awarded La Familia Medical Center a three-year grant of $200,000 to support the Maternal and Infant Health program.
A portion of the expanded funding will be used to hire an additional Community Health Worker who can make home visits to expectant mothers who, for a variety reasons, could be considered high risk. The OB team is also planning to offer more parent education to prospective parents.
