La Familia: The clinic that would become La Familia (LF) opened its doors in 1972 and was designated as a Federal Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1987. It maintained a single practice site for the first twenty plus years of operation and occupied two different sites, one on Hickox Street and the other at 1121 Alto Street, prior to moving to the current Alto Street location in 1995. The Alto Street clinic building is owned by the City of Santa Fe, and LF operates from that location on a lease.
Southside Clinic: Alto Street Clinic was the sole clinic site until 2000, when the Southside location opened near Agua Fria Village. The Southside location is owned by Santa Fe County and leased to La Familia on a 25 year lease that expires at the end of 2024. The Southside Clinic is located near the highest growth area in the city, and the 87507 zip code has the highest level of eligible unmet need for FQHC services, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) census and utilization data.
Healthcare for the Homeless Clinic opened in 2002 and was originally located at 818 Camino Sierra Vista, where it remained until the end of 2015 when the lease ran out and the building was sold. HCH operated out of the Alto Street location for most of 2016 until a new site was leased, remodeled, and licensed. HCH administrative staff moved to the new location at 1532-B Cerrillos Road in October, 2016, and the full program reopened there in January, 2017. Health Care for the Homeless is on a five year renewable lease with a private party.
Dental Clinic: The Dental program operated for several years out of both the Alto Street and Southside locations. In 2011 it moved to a brand new facility on the campus of Santa Fe Community College, where it remains at the present time.. The oral health program offers comprehensive care, ranging from basic preventive care and restorative services such as dentures, crowns, and root canals. For the uninsured population these higher level services are simply not available on a consistent basis elsewhere.
La Familia receives funding support from the Health and Human Services Department, the City of Santa Fe, the Santa Fe County Indigent Fund, the Santa Fe County Maternal and Child Health Program, the New Mexico Department of Health, numerous foundations, and contributions from the Santa Fe community.
