Prenatal support services include 4 free monthly group prenatal classes; Introduction to pregnancy, 2nd Trimester and nutrition, 3rd Trimester and breastfeeding and Labor and Birth. Classes are open to all pregnant women; support people are welcome and encouraged to attend. We also teach prenatal classes in the Grads program at Capital High School and Santa Fe High School.

Centering is an approach to prenatal care designed to give women more time for instruction, health checks, and discussion with their providers and other patients. In Centering, patients participate in group sessions with a small number of other pregnant women who are at the same stage of pregnancy. Centering provides patients with the recommended 10 prenatal wellness visits, but each visit is 90 minutes to two hours long. The group facilitators—a provider and promotora—help to guide the group’s discussion around pregnancy and postpartum topics, covering everything from normal pregnancy symptoms to labor and delivery and newborn care. It’s not only an efficient way to deliver information, it’s an environment where expectant parents can learn from and support each other. We’ve seen women form lasting friendships at these sessions, and they get to see their babies grow up together!

All La Familia patients are provided with prenatal breastfeeding education and support after delivery. Our breastfeeding support staff visit La Familia patients at Christus St Vincent Hospital after delivery and provide outpatient support as needed in both of our medical clinic locations. We also offer low cost breast pump rental for uninsured patients.

La Familia offers confidential Hep C testing. Clinical staff is specially trained in Hepatitis C treatment and management.

La Familia offers weekly classes focused on promotion of strength, flexibility, balance and reduction of chronic pain.
