Training Family Medicine Physicians to Care for New Mexico

La Familia Medical Center is the primary training site for residents in the Northern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program (NNFMRP).  This program is part of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Family Medicine training program.  Resident physicians in this 1+2 training program spend their first year in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico Medical Center.  The last two years of their training are based at La Familia Medical Center, CHRISTUS St Vincent Medical Center and with other Santa Fe clinics and specialists.  Since its beginning in 1998 NNFMRP and La Familia have trained 41 Family Medicine physicians of whom 32 have remained in New Mexico to work.

La Famila Medical Center is one of the statewide locations for the New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program, training family medicine residents for placement as physicians in New Mexico. This program, over-seen by UNM Medical School, seeks to address the lack of physicians in rural areas of New Mexico by training them in rural areas, where it is hoped they will return upon graduation. Training in Santa Fe takes place at La Familia Medical Center, Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, Women's Health Services, Indian Health Services, the offices of local physicians, and area rest homes.
