At La Familia, we offer support to our patients and their families to achieve the best possible health.
DIABETES EDUCATION
Our ADA certified diabetes education team offers group and individual diabetes education for patients and their families.
NUTRITION
Our Registered Dietitian offers group and individualized nutrition counseling to patients with gestational diabetes and teaches a monthly prenatal nutrition class.
PRENATAL EDUCATION
Prenatal support services include 4 free monthly prenatal groups, including: Introduction to Pregnancy, 2nd Trimester and Nutrition, 3rd Trimester and Breastfeeding, & Labor and Birth. Sessions are open to our pregnant patients and their support person. At this time we are offering bilingual group sessions via zoom or one-on-one sessions in-person.
CENTERING PRENATAL CARE
Centering Pregnancy is an approach to prenatal care designed to create community support, engage mothers in their well-being, and offer more time with their provider. In Centering, patients participate in 10 bilingual group sessions with a small number of other pregnant women who are at the same stage of pregnancy. Centering provides patients with the recommended 10 prenatal wellness visits and each visit is 90 minutes to two hours long. The group facilitators—a provider and a promotora—help to guide the group’s discussion around pregnancy and postpartum topics, covering everything from normal pregnancy symptoms to labor and delivery and newborn care. It is in an environment where expectant parents can learn from each other, support each other and get accurate information. We have seen women form lasting friendships at these sessions, and they get to see their babies grow up together!
BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT
La Familia OB patients are offered breastfeeding education materials in their pregnancy. Our breastfeeding Lactation Consultant and counselors offer bilingual support at Newborn and Well Child Care visits, or individual visits at both clinic locations. We also offer low cost breast pump rental for our patients and community members.
HEPATITIS C PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
La Familia offers confidential Hep C testing. Clinical staff is specially trained in Hepatitis C treatment and management.
